Dragons were eliminated from the Champions League by Arsenal (1-1 [4-2])

120 minutes of effort, sacrifice and a lot of tactical intelligence forced the round that opposed FC Porto and Arsenal to the penalty shootout. In the decisive shots, Wendell and Galeno failed to beat Raya and that means the best Portuguese team in Europe was eliminated in the Round of 16 of the Champions League (1-1 [4-2]).

On his 50th game ahead of FC Porto in the Champions League, Sérgio Conceição kept the same team that had beaten Arsenal, Benfica and Portimonense. The Dragons controlled all the momentum the Londoners tried to have from the beginning, used Diogo Costa to start plays from the back and tried to hurt the Gunners with long balls.

16 minutes in, that’s how Evanilson shot close to David Raya's post, with the goalkeeper being tested again by the Brazilian forward 22 minutes in: the number 30 got the ball inside the area and aimed for goal, but the goalkeeper threw himself in front of the ball and prevented the blue and whites from getting ahead.

At a disadvantage in the round, the Gunners tried to take advantage of any imbalance in the blue and white wall to score and, 29 minutes in, Pepe was the protagonist. Playing his 120th European game, a worldwide example, he deflected a ball that was going straight to Havertz's head and ended up inside the goal himself.

The British did, however, reached the lead in the first half. 40 minutes in, Trossard passed to Odegaard and, near the small area, placed the ball next to the far post. The round was tied again on the way to the break (1-0 [1-1]).

The home team went in the second half applying more pressure and, 68 minutes in, scored the second goal, but it was disallowed by Clément Turpin. In a ball thrown behind the defence, Pepe didn’t understand what Diogo Costa was about to do and the ball was left for Odegaard to push it into the deserted goal, but Havertz had pulled the defender and the goal was disallowed.

In the following play, Francisco Conceição was close to giving FC Porto a new lead. After a good counter, Nico González passed to the number 10, who carried the ball from the midfield to the area, then testing Raya, but the goalkeeper saved it.

Arteta changed the attack and sent in Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian found himself in a good position in the first few seconds and his shot was saved by Diogo Costa, as was Saka's, a minute later. Until the end of the regular time, Jorge Sánchez was also replaced for João Mário, Mehdi Taremi replaced Evanilson and, in pain, Alan Varela was replaced by Marko Grujic. In the last play of the 90 minutes, the Dragons asked for a penalty, but the English tackled had been preceded by Taremi's offside.

Sérgio Conceição refreshed the team in the first half of extra time, and there was only a play from FC Porto that ended in a shot from the number nine that went outside. Eustáquio and Gonçalo Borges replaced Nico González and Francisco Conceição. In the second half, Galeno tried to score a goal identical to the first leg, but the ball ended up in Raya's hands and the decision went to penalty shootout.

From the penalty spot, all Gunners made it count, and Raya saved the shots of Wendell and Galeno (4-2). FC Porto were eliminated from the main European competition.
