André Villas-Boas: «Our commitment is to win»

Objective and concise. At this Saturday’s press conference, held at Olival, André Villas-Boas rejected the idea that there is overconfidence and euphoria in the team, emphasizing that what in fact subsists is indeed a strong commitment to win.

That's exactly what the team intends to continue doing on their next game, against Beira-Mar. FC Porto will play host to the team from Aveiro on Sunday at 20h15 at Estádio do Dragão.

Time off essentially to recuperate
«We had a short span of time between games, which was used mainly to recuperate. We know that over such situations more recovery time is unavailable and I make use of the games to assimilate principles. The team organization is not different for Sunday's meeting, but I expect there to be the possibility for further consolidation processes. That comes with the games. Above all, we will take on this match aware that we have fully recovered and are at full strength.»

Beira-Mar duly analysed
«We gathered this [Saturday] morning and prepared ourselves as we always have for all opponents. We analysed videos concerning Beira Mar in addition to our behaviour in relation to Beira-Mar.»

The show is what wins
«The way to approach the various games depends on the philosophy and strategic interpretation of each coach. Leonardo Jardim is one of the people I admire in local football. I played against him last year and we respect one another. As a coach, he’s extremely organized and is undoubtedly sincere. In my opinion, the show benefits from this type of approach to the game. Last year, at Académica, I did the same, personally believing that Portuguese football can only gain from this. However, we respect any kind of setting. Each coach plays with the weapons that he has.»

Confidence in the correct quantity
«The truth is that we also have been under pressure due to some organizational issues. This will be overcome by consolidating processes, done through field training or in an actual game. The important thing is to allow fewer opportunities to the opponent and continue to create sufficient successful opportunities to allow winning. There is absolutely no overconfidence. During the pre-season, we also had an excellent performance but everything was quickly questioned after the defeat in Paris. Thus, there is no euphoria, what does in fact exist is the commitment to win and that is what we intend to continue to do over the next games.»

Regularity is the key
«Last year, the big three all drew in the first round and then consolidated work methods. Regularity is what matters. Thus, I don’t consider that this bad start for Sporting and Benfica will put up a significant fight for the title so early in the championship.»
