"We gave Académica a 45 minutes head-start"
At the pressroom, after the tie against Académica, which still leaves FC Porto in the lead of the League, the coach Vítor Pereira admitted the mistakes of the team, pointing out that the performance and the outcome were an obvious lesson: games like this are not to be repeated.
"FC Porto didn’t win because we weren’t capable, we weren’t competent. We gave Académica a 45 minutes head-start and, in the second-half, we ended up playing in the maximum risk to reach the tie. We can’t start any more matches with this lack of aggression and inability to solve the difficulties presented to us."
Heart, but no mind
"Académica should be given credit, they defended well, and were objective in the counter-attack. We needed a different pace and more defensive aggression when they were starting the counter-attack. The second-half was different, we played with three defenders and in complete risk. We had goal situations, but with heart, not the mind that was required."
"From my point of view, Hulk’s play is worthy of penalty and there is another play with Hulk as well, where he wasn’t offside, and that could have given us the goal. But the truth is we were too relaxed…"
"The referee had one or two mistakes, but we have to assume ours. That is what I am here for. May this be a lesson for future matches."
