Beijing: FC Porto wins second race

After clinching a brilliant pole position in qualifying, Álvaro Parente wasn’t as fortunate in the start of the first race in Beijing after a fuel pressure problem and so wasn’t able to sum up any points. In the second heat, however, the FC Porto pilot was brilliant: he clearly revealed his place and added yet another victory to FC Porto’s season in the Superleague Formula.

This Sunday was further proof that FC Porto has not had the best of fortunes this season, despite having won several races and, just last week, reigned in the Super Final in Ordos, with Earl Bamber in command at the wheel.

Starting off in pole position and with a very reliable car, Álvaro Parente had it all to win the Beijing street circuit, but unfortunately he didn’t have the opportunity to prove his pace, as he wasn’t able to accelerate from the starting point of the first race. This proved to be a hard setback that disheartened the FC Porto team but by no means blurred its ambition.

However, in the second race of this round nothing blurred the FC Porto flame and Álvaro Parente, who took off from 4th position, proving to be very competitive throughout, finishing ahead of PSV and AC Milan. The FC Porto
pilot had to struggle with very difficult weather conditions, enduring a few scares (including spinning) but even so, managed to reach his objective. The Super Final, however, was cancelled due to rain.

«This proved to be a very strange weekend. I started off very well attaining pole position on Friday, but from then on it was sheer madness. In the first race, I can’t even say that I got to start the race because of the problem I had with the fuel pressure. The second race was indeed better and I even managed to win, but the rain and fading light made the race dangerous. Anyhow, I came to Beijing and attained pole position and a win», summed up the pilot, after a thrilling weekend.
