The white and blue player Varela scored the winning goal, allowing the victory over Denmark, for the second fixture of group B for the Euro 2012. At Arena Lviv, the winger came in 84 minutes in, when the game was tied, and scored the decisive goal (3-2), 87 minutes in, thanks to a powerful shot.
The remaining goals were also scored by former FC Porto player: Pepe, 24 minutes in, and Hélder Postiga, 36 minutes. With this score, Portugal has 3 points and is in the race to qualify for the quarter-finals. The next match, closing the group stage, is against Holland (Sunday, 19h45), in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
It should be noticed that, apart from Varela, two more FC Porto players played. João Moutinho was in the starting line-up, and Roland came in 90 minutes in to replace Nani, helping to secure the precious advantage. |
