Flying and goal scorer central defender
He raised to excellence, as high as he rises on the pitch, to defend, but also to attack. From Brazil, he brought a number of credentials worthy of respect, like his jumping capacity, which allows him to fly over opponents and reach the ball where most can’t. Felipe is a flying central defender, with an appetite for goals, and, on his debut season as a Dragon, in 2016/17, he was praised almost everywhere and also by Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa. The chairman believes the duo he makes with Marcano to be “one of the best ever” of the club, becoming the foundation to one of the most solid defences in Europe this season.

The aerial movement, which makes him strong in offensive set pieces, is one of the qualities that made him one of the top defenders of Brasileirão. But that’s not the only one: Felipe is known for his good marking, positioning, and defensive one on ones, adding competence to play further up on the pitch, as he is also fast. Aggressive enough, the defender also shows great capacity to communicate thanks to the calm shown during tense moments, built on focus and discipline on the pitch.
This means Felipe has no issues in leading the defence, giving everything on the pitch, bleeding if needed, as he stated himself during his presentation. Before reaching European football, he was forced to overcome several obstacles: aged 14, when he was still a forward, he tried his luck with Corinthians, but wasn’t successful. Playing in different clubs in the city of Mogi das Cruzes, where he grew up, Felipe finally got to Bragantino, now as a defender, thanks to the DVD he edited himself with footage of his matches. That’s where Corinthians noticed him again, allowing him to enter the club already with a name for himself.
The first moments weren’t easy, but Felipe beat the difficulties and won the heart of the fans, and, in 2015, he was instrumental in winning the Brazilian championship. The good performances he put on earned him a call to the national team, during the qualification matches for the 2018 World Cup. At the time, Dunga was the national coach, but Tite, who trusted Felipe in Corinthians, took over recently.
