The apple doesn’t fall far...

Gonçalo Paciência is one of the faces of success in the formation of FC Porto, as the striker completed the entire course until his debut as a senior, on January 12, 2014, for the B team, against Portimonense, away. Gonçalo, born in 1994 (23 years old) and son of the former glory and also striker Domingos Paciência (fifth top scorer ever for the club, with 142 goals in 379 matches), earned each step, from Campo da Constituição to the loan, for one season, to Padroense.

In 2013/14, he scored five goals in 19 games and, in the following season, he was one of the best in the B team (18 matches and nine goals), earning several calls to the main team. On the third call, on January 28, 2015, he scored his first goal for the main squad, against Académica (4-1), for the League Cup. He celebrated as his father used to, raising the right index finger.

The next step had to be gaining experience and loans were made to Académica, Olympiacos (interrupted halfway through the season), Rio Ave and Vitória de Setúbal. The time spent in Sado, in the first round of 2017/18, proved to be the most profitable: 11 goals scored and six assistances in 25 matches, earning him a debut in the Portuguese national team (in November, in a friendly against the United States of America), after a long journey in the national youth teams.

This evolution earned him the ticket back home in January 2018, a decision, Sérgio Conceição explained, based on a deep knowledge of the striker: “I was following what he was doing, I’ve known him since the formation at FC Porto, I know his quality, his parents...”.

He has great technical ability and impressive physical power, features that allow him to gain advantage in small spaces - and we’re thinking of the area, of course -, Gonçalo Paciência “grew up”, but also became a better player. In Setúbal, in a team fighting against relegation, he learned how to use his great weapons and be more effective. Now, he starts the “second part of the dream”, as he admitted, talking to www.fcporto.pt and Porto Canal.
