Ghanaian

Attacker

Fast and versatile

Majeed Waris arrived at FC Porto in January, 2018, to offer more options on the attack to coach Sérgio Conceição. And that is exactly one of the 26 years old Ghanaian’s assets, that he can take on any attacking role. On a loan from Lorient until the end of season 2017/18, the forward, 1.72 metres tall, also played in Valenciennes in France, which are exactly the same clubs Aboubakar, another African forward, played for in that country.

In terms of characteristics, there is one that is easy to see in Waris, which makes him similar to Marega: his speed. The number 18 plays easily on either wing, but feels more comfortable on the right, and, because of that, he doesn’t score that many goals. Still, he was the top scorer of the Swedish championship, in 2012, when he was just 21, playing for Hacken (23 goals in 29 matches), and, in the French League, playing for modest clubs, he has an interesting record of 31 goals in 87 matches.

Apart from Sweden, Waris has already played in the Russian (Spartak Moscow, from 2012 to 2014) and Turkish leagues (Trabzonspor, from 2014 to 2015). He was also in the 2014 World Cup, hosted by Brazil, one of the biggest moments in his career, which started in Ghana, at the Right to Dream Academy, in Accra. After that, he moved to England, where he joined the Hartpury College, and the Nike Academy. Chicharito Hernández, now playing for West Ham, and Luis Suárez, from FC Barcelona, are his two biggest references.
