Speed, power, ability to play on either wing or in the middle, pairing up with another striker for a 4-4-2. He arrived at Estádio do Dragão in January, 2015, coming from Marítimo, and, in 2016/17, he was loaned to Vitória de Guimarães, having scored 13 goals in the Portuguese League (fifth top scorer, along with Jonas, from Benfica). This is Moussa Marega, the forward born in the outskirts of Paris, France, but who chose to play for Mali. He is now aiming at a full return to the blue and white jersey, for season 2017/18.

The lower French divisions had him taking his first steps in his career: first at Le Poiré-sur-Vie, and then at Amiens, before moving to Tunisia, to play for the legendary Ésperance Tunis. However, an administrative issue prevented him from playing any official match, even though he scored many goals in friendly matches. Halfway through the season, the forward moved to Marítimo, ending the season as one of the biggest revelations in the team from Madeira, with eight goals and four assists in 16 matches.

It weren’t just those numbers that led him to the national team of Mali. In a short period of time, Marega showed qualities that caught the eye of national coach Alain Giresse: fast, and explosive, the forward creates plays with ease, becoming dangerous in quick transitions, as he easily catches the defence off-guard. Also known for his ability to shoot, and for having considerable motility despite his physique (1.87 meters, 83 kilos), Marega is constantly wearing the defenders down, becoming hard to control in the finishing area.
