FC Porto is the national champion and the status increases the responsibility for 2018/19, but Alex Telles believes that is a “good responsibility”. The Brazilian fullback is preparing to start his third season as a Dragon and assures he “feels at home” and that he is already thinking of the Supercup, scheduled for August 4 (20h45), against Desportivo das Aves, at Estádio Municipal de Aveiro. For the number 13, “there is nothing better than starting the season with a title”.
Returning to Olival
“I am very happy to be back at work and with my teammates and staff. What we enjoy is to play football and I feel at home here. I’m happy and this will be a season with new objectives. I have no doubts that everyone is ready. We already started doing our best on the first day.”
Responsibility of champion
“We are expecting increasing difficulties. We are the champions and we have the responsibility of playing with that status, but it’s a good responsibility. We are a great team, with great objectives, but we also know we will be a target, so we can’t lower our level at any moment, be in training or in matches. We need to start the pre-season strong as there is a Supercup to win a month from now.”
Start the season with another title
“The Supercup is an opportunity to start the season with a title. “There is nothing better than that and the Supercup is one of our goals. Everyone deserves it and it will give us more confidence for the rest of the season.”
Missing the fans?
“Of course. They were our fuel throughout the championship and we felt their strength on the pitch. It was something that made the difference and I can’t wait to meet them again, meet our Blue Sea. It’s an incentive for us to play with a full stadium and, wherever we go, they are with us.”
The new players in the group
“It’s always good to welcome new players, especially youngsters. It’s obvious there’s always some awkwardness, but those who have been longer transmit tranquillity so that they can work and show their quality. If they are here, it’s because they have skill.”
Coming and going on the defence
“We will keep having a strong defence. It’s normal that the fans are worried, but transfers are normal in football. The fans may be sure that, whoever stays, will do his best to defend FC Porto. Whoever arrives, must come with the same spirit we had last season.”
