This Saturday, FC Porto Fidelidade debuted in the current edition of the roller hockey European League with a victory over Vic, after beating the Catalan team in the opening matchday of Group B, by an undisputed result of 13-2. Gonçalo Alves and Rafa, both with hat-tricks, were the key players in a match in which Jorge Silva (2), Reinaldo Garcia (2), Hélder Nunes, Álvaro Morais and Ton Baliu also scored.
In a one-way match, it quickly became clear that the team led by Guillem Cabestany were not willing to give any chances, seeing as, in the first minute of the match, Gonçalo Alves tricked half of Vic's team to make it 1-0, with the help a Catalan defender. But the goal right at the start was only a warning, the first of many dark moments the opponent lived this afternoon at Dragão Caixa.
The Dragons, with relative ease, managed the match at their own pace, accelerating or slowing it, facing a team that was powerless to stop the blue and white attacks. The break came with a 3-0 lead, which was actually short (a lot because of the posts), but the opening minutes of the second-half had the end of the match. Within two minutes the score went up to 5-0 and continued to grow until 13, with Vic scoring twice in the final five minutes.
For matchday two, the Dragons go to France to face La Vendéenne on November 25. Before that, the Portuguese championship returns, and matchday four takes the national champions to Pavilhão Gimnodesportivo de Turquel. The match is scheduled for 21h00, on November 11 (Saturday).
At the end of the match, coach Guillem Cabestany was pleased with the performance of his team and admitted he didn’t expect such an impressive victory: “We knew they had a new team, but we also knew that, in Spain, they have been consistent and very strong. Fortunately, we were able to open the score quickly and that was good for us. We are happy”.
