Insatiable Champion lifts the Supercup

FC Porto beat Sporting de Tomar (7-3) and won the first trophy of the season

FC Porto Fidelidade won the 21st Supercup António Livramento this Saturday, after beating Sporting de Tomar, 7-3, at the Pavilhão Municipal do Entroncamento. This was “just” the fifth consecutive title team led by Guillem Cabestany won: two Supercups António Livramento, two Portuguese Cups and one Championship are the domestic conquests in recent times.

The winning spirit of this FC Porto was clear from the beginning, given the dominant start the Dragons had against Sporting de Tomar, who, five minutes in, was already losing. Jorge Silva, opportunistic as usual, opened the scoreboard for the blue and whites in a play full of class, the same class with which Hélder Nunes made it 2-0 after a superb combination with Gonçalo Alves (10m).

Gonçalo Alves also scored from the penalty mark (17m) and Hélder Nunes scored his second (20m) shortly before Paulo Passos reduced for Sporting de Tomar (21m), setting the 4-1 that went to the break. The Dragons came back somewhat apathetic and the team from Tomar took the chance to reduce distances through Hernâni Diniz (30m and 31m), but Gonçalo Alves responded soon after (31m).

The match became more disputed from then on and Carles Grau played an important role in holding the advantage: the goalkeeper defended a penalty and a free-kick that would have allowed Sporting de Tomar to recover on the scoreboard again. On the other hand, Hélder Nunes didn’t miss and reached the hat-trick (47m), ending any doubts that could remain regarding the winner of the match. Rafa closed the scoreboard (50m) and the Supercup António Livramento was well delivered.
