A cup of many champions

This Sunday, at Estádio do Dragão, the III edition of the Dragon Force Champions Cup came to an end

Despite the extreme heat, the second and final day of the III edition of the Dragon Force Champions Cup again brought excitement to Estádio do Dragão, where many of the potential future stars of FC Porto played. In the first day, the Under12 team coming from Viseu and the Under11 from Ermesinde were proclaimed champions, and, this Sunday, there were other tiny stars raising the cup.

In the youngest category in competition, the Under10, Dragon Force Porto came out on top, after beating Dragon Force Ermesinde in the final, 6-3. As if they were trying to make amends, the Under13 team from Ermesinde then won the title, beating Dragon Force Lisbon (4-1). In the Under15 final, Dragon Force Braga was able to beat Ermesinde, 1-0, with the single goal of the match being scored by Ricardo Simões.

After raising the trophy, David Veiga, captain of the Under15 champions, didn’t hide his emotion and the symbolic value of the moment, promising to remember it for the rest of his life. “To play in this stadium, on this pitch, this is a dream come true, especially as I did it at this age. This is something I will never forget, especially seeing as we became champions. It was amazing to celebrate at Estádio do Dragão and I’m hoping this was just the first of many victories in the future”.

António Folha, coach of the national Under19 champions, FC Porto, cut his vacations short to attend the tournament at Estádio do Dragão and give the trophy to each of the winning teams. “I think it’s important for these kids that I’m here to give them the cup, but this means a lot for me as well. I have some players in my team that never set foot at Estádio do Dragão, so I believe these moments are completely unforgettable for these kids. It was an honour to be invited to be here and I made a point of coming”, the coach stated.
