Sérgio Conceição: “We are hungry for titles”

Coach previewed the match Paços de Ferreira-FC Porto, for the third and final matchday of Group D of the League Cup

Leader of Liga NOS, with a guaranteed presence in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League and in the “quarter finals” of the Portuguese Cup, FC Porto wants to reach 2018 also qualified in the League Cup, the competition that may be worth the first trophy of the new civil year. Sérgio Conceição admits to the enormous ambition that exists in the squad, which he guarantees to be prepared to win Saturday’s match (20h15) against Paços de Ferreira, in Estádio Capital do Móvel, and to count only on themselves to be present in the final four of the League Cup, scheduled for the end of January at Estádio Municipal de Braga.

Difficulties in perspective
“We will find an opponent who also has a chance to move on to the final four. We are counting on a difficult match, but this is no different from all the others we have played so far and we are preparing it so we can win, and depend on ourselves to be in the semi-final of the League Cup.”

The necessary mini-vacations
“You know that I am very strict and demanding with everything that involves the team. We felt it was beneficial for the players to have a few days off, and this was the only possible period. Sometimes we say that the best workout is not to train and that goes here. These last five months were very demanding, with many matches and now we are going to start another very important cycle, also full of matches and we have to manage this situation very well.”

Great ambition
“We did four training units, enough to prepare the strategy according to our principles, so we can be at our best and do everything to win the match, as it will allow us to be in this semi-final and thus closer to winning a title in January. We deeply want to win, there is a great ambition, there is a great hunger for titles and that commitment is clear in the entire group.”

An analysis to the first half of the season
“We are in the Champions League, we are in the Portuguese Cup, we are doing well in the league, but we haven’t won anything yet.”

Blue Sea in Mata Real
“When you spend a few days away from the family, you grow eager to seeing everyone again and it’s the same thing here: we want to be with the fans and the fans want to see the team. This great complicity between the fans and the team makes this objective of winning the League Cup more obvious. I am very happy for this, because our strength also comes from the outside and we will certainly be stronger with that strength.”
