2015/16 had the most attended presentation in the history of Estádio do Dragão

48,109 spectators were in the stadium on the day the team greeted the fans

On the 8th August 2015, Estádio do Dragão wrote another page in its history. The 48,109 spectators that attended the celebration to present the main team for the 2015/16 season allowed for a new record in attendances at the event that launches the football season at the home of FC Porto.

In the nearly 11 years of existence for Estádio do Dragão, the best numbers achieved came in the first season the stadium opened its doors, in 2004/05, with 47,102 spectators, 1,007 less than this season. The record now achieved actually confirms a tendency that has been growing in the last two seasons, where over 45 thousand people attended the presentation ceremony. The record for official matches, however, is still the one achieved in 2003/2004, for the first leg of the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League, against Deportivo de La Coruña, with 50,818 fans.

Speaking of records, exactly one week after the ceremony to start the season, Estádio do Dragão welcomed the match FC Porto-Vitória de Guimarães, for the first matchday of Liga NOS, with the tickets selling out, which allowed to reach the number of ten million spectators since the stadium was opened. That day also became part of history thanks to two debuts: the launch of the flier “Azul Extra”, a new free official program for matches at Estádio do Dragão; and the kick-off of the new FC Porto app, which allows the user to access the stadium from a smartphone and smartwatch, which proved to be a tremendous hit after 24 hours, as it reached the top positions in terms of free downloads. Also on that day, there was a new sales record at the FC Porto Store of Estádio do Dragão, where the fans can still find the August edition of the magazine “Dragões”, presenting Iker Casillas on the cover. The week would end with the Museum also breaking records, for the number of attendants in one day.
