Cabestany: “Maximum optimism, maximum ambition”

Coach believes FC Porto Fidelidade has a squad capable of fighting for all competitions in 2017/18

The national roller hockey champions were officially presented for the new season this Wednesday, with renewed ambition: “maximum optimism, maximum ambition, eager to give more, continue on top of the fights and try to win titles”. These words came from coach Guillem Cabestany, who believes FC Porto Fidelidade has a squad with solutions to fight for all the trophies, not just domestically, but also internationally, namely the European League, where the objective is to improve the performance of the two most recent campaigns, when the team failed to reach the final four.

An eye on the titles
“The goals of FC Porto are always the maximum, to win every match. This group isn’t done yet, the players want more, even because there are players with margin for progression, and I think we can add things to the game and work. So, maximum optimism, maximum ambition, eager to give more, continue on top of the fights and try to win titles.”

The same candidates
“We want to win the title again, but it's of no use to say that we are the main favourites to win the championship or not. I think we have a squad with options and humility, and the capacity to work to be in the fight and the first objective is to improve even more. I don’t feel that we are more favourite than anyone else.”

Improve in Europe
“We are already working, thinking of winning and, after a victory, we’ll focus on the next one. In the Champions League, we need to improve so that, when the decisive time comes, we will be better prepared. It's another goal we have for this year.”

The return of Álvaro Morais
“Alvarinho already knows the house, he is returning with greater experience and, hopefully, he will give us the freshness of a young player, with ambition and desire to learn, improve and triumph in FC Porto, and also quality in the attack, in the finishing zone, which we hope we can take advantage of.”

The home factor
“The trajectory of the team's results in matches at home is almost perfect in the last two seasons. When we play with Caixa do Dragão full, it’s very difficult for the team to lose a match, so the support of the fans is very important and gives us a greater force to fight for titles. We will not ask them to come, we will offer them our work and good performances so that they will support us, and I’m convinced that they will help us not only in big games, but also in all others.”
