This Tuesday, FC Porto Museum and Estádio do Dragão greeted a Mexican convoy, led by the Mexican Ambassador in Portugal, Alfredo Pérez Bravo, and by Honorary Mexican Consul in Porto, Paulo Coelho Lima. The diplomats were welcomed by Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, chairman of FC Porto, who revealed how pleased he is with the character and the professionalism shown by the Mexican white and blue players, then announcing the creation of “two football vacations camps” in that country, in the next month of December.
Pinto da Costa stated that the “bet in Mexico will continue”, as can be seen in the six players currently in the squad: Raúl Gudiño, Diego Reyes, Miguel Layún, Omar Govea, Herrera e Jesús Corona. “Apart from their value – and the main proof of that is that four of them are currently playing in the national team –, they are also players of great character and professionalism. Mexico is a country that we want to remain close to, and that’s why we invited the Ambassador and the Honorary Consul to visit us. I can go as far as revealing that we will be holding two football vacations camps in Mexico, as we want to make this relation even closer. If Mexico is pleased that we have their players at FC Porto, we are also rejoiced with everything they give us and the professionalism they pass on to their teammates”.
The Mexican Ambassador stated that “having Mexican players in one of the best teams in Portugal, Europe and the World is a great honour, and, above all, a great opportunity”. “Now that I had the chance to visit the Museum and the Stadium, I was able to see some footage and pictures, and I would love to see, in the near future, more pictures of Mexican players. I had never seen a sporting Museum this complete and I was highly impressed by the technology. And, with the presence of the cups, it makes for an impressive collection”, the Ambassador explained. Alfredo Pérez Bravo labelled FC Porto as an “extraordinary club” and left a message: “I would like to issue a thank you on behalf of the Mexican Government and a personal thank you for the extraordinary way, kind and sensitive, the Mexican people is received in Portugal and, especially, to Pinto da Costa, for the way the club treats the Mexican players and for the opportunities they are given”.
The Honorary Mexican Consul in Porto was impressed with what he found at the Museum: “Without a doubt, this is one of the best sporting Museums in the world and it faithfully shows the history of the club, the joy and thrill of the fans, of a city and a country. I recently took over this position and I must say that the consul is entirely at the disposal of helping in the strengthening of the relation with the club. FC Porto can count on the consul for anything, to promote both the club and the FC Porto brand. We are committed in finding as many supporters as we can, and also partners who may be interested in the brand and in promoting Mexico here in Porto”.
