Debut with a win in the Premier League International Cup

Two goals from André Pereira led to the 2-0 victory over Reading. Galeno was also decisive in a great second half

Two goals from André Pereira (in the picture), in the last ten minutes, allowed FC Porto B to debut the 2017/18 Premier League International Cup with a victory over Reading, 2-0. After an uninteresting first-half, where the English team even had more goal opportunities, the blue and whites, champions in the competition, increased speed and also counted on the inspiration of substitute Galeno, who was part of the two goals. This was the first match in Group E of the competition aimed at Under-23 players, and FC Porto is in the lead in the group that also counts on Arsenal and Bayern Munich.

In the first-half, there were two clear opportunities for Reading: 28 minutes in, Josh Barrett tried a lob, in front of a hasty move from Mouhamed, and hit the top bar, but the goalkeeper immediately redeemed himself, stopping the shot of Loader; nine minutes later, Sam Smith hit the post, following a cross from Tom Holmes. However, the Dragons - playing with Mouhamed, Dalot, Diogo Queirós, Moreto, Anderson and Ruben Macedo in the starting team - also had a great opportunity, with another lob, this time from Luís Mata, 22 minutes in, but the ball went out.

In the second-half, FC Porto increased the pace and the aggression, and pushed Reading back. The first sign of danger came right after the break, with Ruben Macedo passing to Dalot, but a fearless move from Leg prevented the first goal. Galeno, again in front of Legg, also missed another opportunity to score, but the goal did come 81 minutes in, after the Brazilian dribbled the goalkeeper on the left and passed to André Pereira, who just pushed the ball in. At the Staplewood Campus (training grounds of Southampton), in Marchwood, England, the score was closed with the second goal for André Pereira, from a penalty, the end result of a play started by Galeno.
