The Romanian team Viitorul Constanta is the Under-19 opponent of the Under-19 FC Porto team for the round of 16 of the Youth League, to be played on February 21, at 18h00, at Estádio do Pedroso, with the Dragons as hosts. The knock-out stage is played in only one leg (if the game ends in a tie, there will be a penalty shootout), but the blue and whites already know who they might face in the quarter-finals. Should they qualify to that stage, they will be facing FC Barcelona or Borussia Dortmund, away, on March 7 or 8.
Viitorul Constanta was founded in 2009, by former Romanian international star George Hagi, who is also the main sponsor and coach of the main team. The Carpathian Maradona, as he became known when he played, set the base of the club in a modern football academy, named after him, which holds 14 teams, including the Under-19, and has nine training pitches. To get to this stage in the competition, Viitorul beat Sheriff Tiraspol, from Moldavia, and Zurich, from Switzerland, in two legs; in the play-off, played in only one leg, they beat Copenhagen, from Denmark (a team FC Porto faced in the group stage), 4-2.
The semi-finals (April 21) and the final (April 24) will be played at the Colovray Stadium, in Nyon, Switzerland, next to the UEFA headquarters.
