Casillas: “We are the strongest team in Portugal”

Spanish goalkeeper emphasized the fair victory over Sporting in the first leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-final

The 100th match Iker Casillas played for FC Porto ended in a 1-0 victory over Sporting in the first leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-final, and the Spanish international star intends to do more, “winning the championship and cups”. On Wednesday's match, the goalkeeper spoke of “a fair result” and a serious job “from start to finish”.

Fair result
“We played a very serious game from start to end, as we had already done in Alvalade in September, and in Braga, two weeks ago. We deserved more in both matches and today the result was fair. We worked hard from start to end and we are happy with this result.”

Stronger
“In the League Cup, in the second-half, I think Sporting changed what their usual match is and we started playing more, closer to Sporting's goal. Today it happened more or less the same, they changed the tactic and the system, and, as time went by, we ended up getting what we wanted, which was to create occasions. It’s obvious that Sporting also managed to do so, as they are a great team, but we are the strongest team in Portugal.”

Importance of not conceding
“I think it's important to not concede goals on this round. It’s true that there is still another match, which will be in Alvalade, in a difficult setting, but, in our heads, the championship is more relevant, as it is more important. And there is also the UEFA Champions League, which is a dream. You have to enjoy and dream.”

Championship and cups
“It's great to reach 100 matches. When I came here, two and a half years ago, I arrived with great hope and the stability of last year and this year is very positive. I hope I can play more matches and that we win the championship and cups, which is what we all want.”
