Dragons say goodbye of the FIBA European Cup

Victory against Kapfenberg Bulls (71-61), in Austria, was not enough for FC Porto to move on in the competition

FC Porto said goodbye to the FIBA European Cup despite beating Kapfbenberg Bulls (71-61), in Austria, in Group C's sixth and final matchday, as Mornar Bar beat Kataja Basket in Montenegro (76 -71). The blue and whites return to the court on Saturday, starting at 21h00, at Dragão Caixa, to face Eléctrico. The match, for matchday ten of the first phase of the Portuguese Basketball League, will be broadcasted live in Porto Canal.

It was a strong start for FC Porto in Austria, with the team quickly showing that they were going to fight for the qualification to the next stage until the last second. The first period was a dominating one (27-16) and the second had little or no change in the match, so the 11 points advantage at halftime was a natural consequence of the Dragons' good performance (39-28).

The break didn’t affect FC Porto’s brilliance and, despite the Austrian reaction, Moncho López's team remained on top and with high levels of accuracy, grabbing the victory until the end (81-71). With Pedro Bastos (18 points), Will Sheehey (17 points) and Marcus Gilbert (13 points) as men of the match, the Dragons did their job, but Mornar Bar’s victory made the effort inglorious.
