FC Porto's last official match in 2017 takes the Dragons to Estádio Capital do Móvel, in Paços de Ferreira, the stage for the third and final matchday of Group D of the League Cup, starting at 20h15 (RTP 1 and Sport TV 1), this Saturday. The team led by Sérgio Conceição shares the lead with Leixões, both with four points, but the blue and whites have the goal advantage (3-0 to 1-0). On this last matchday, Leixões is going to Vila do Conde to face Rio Ave. The winner of the group guarantees a spot in the Final Four of League Cup, which is played between January 23 and 27, 2018, in Braga.
Since the beginning of the 90s, when they reached the top level of Portuguese football for the first time, Paços de Ferreira have already received the blue and whites 20 times and won on three occasions, the last of which in season 2015/16. The victory of Paços de Ferreira, by the minimum margin (1-0), in matchday 29 of the Championship, was scored by Diogo Jota, player who, in the following season, represented FC Porto. Before this defeat, the last time FC Porto was defeated in Paços de Ferreira was on May 11, 2003, in a match that only served for the Dragons to complete the schedule, as the title was already mathematically guaranteed and there was still the Portuguese Cup and the then UEFA Cup to win.
Historically, in the 20 times that the Dragons played at the home of Paços de Ferreira, one of which for the League Cup, the score is unquestionably favourable to the Dragons: 13 victories, four ties and three defeats. One of those victories was exactly in the only duel for the League Cup, in 2011/12: 2-1 for FC Porto, with goals scored by Cristian Rodríguez and Hulk, while William scored for Paços. The dominance of FC Porto in the history of matches against the team from Paços de Ferreira, away, can also be seen in goals: in 20 matches between the two teams, the Dragons scored 28, having conceded only nine.
In the current season, FC Porto and Paços de Ferreira have already met for matchday nine of Liga NOS: 6-1, with goals from Ricardo, Felipe, Marega (2), Corona and Aboubakar. Paços de Ferreira-FC Porto will be previewed by Porto Canal starting at 19h30, and can be followed live on the official FC Porto app, and on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. After the final whistle, the game will be analysed by Porto Canal and www.fcporto.pt will have the report and statements from the coach and players.
