Record of attendance at Estádio do Dragão

The mark of 600 thousand attendants was surpassed before the end of the year

Estádio do Dragão has already welcomed more than 600 000 attendants since opening doors for season 2017/18. This number represents an absolute record in the history of the stadium, inaugurated on November 16, 2003.

The season started with the first record of attendance, including the presentation match and the matches against Estoril and Moreirense. With an extremely busy and demanding schedule, Estádio do Dragão has received 15 official matches until the end of the calendar year, a new maximum since opening doors.

The fans have formed a Blue Sea in all the stadiums where FC Porto has played, with a special focus on Estádio do Dragão. With the home match against Rio Ave for the League Cup on December 22, the ground has reached 603 424 attendants since the first day of the season.

The home of FC Porto had never received such a high number of fans in an identical period (Presentation plus 15 official matches). The previous maximum went back to season 2004/05, with 590 802 attendants in the same period. Last season, the total was 560 919 attendants.

This growth is explained first by the strong connection between the team and the fans, obvious from the start, but the football played (45 goals in 15 official matches at home) also helped. The anticipated availability of tickets, at reduced prices, the entertainment at the Square and the greater number of events at the FC Porto Museum, among other concepts, improved the experience of the fan at Estádio do Dragão and also contributed to this record.

The historical maximums also include the attendances of all three matches for the UEFA Champions League (126 554 attendants, against 123 033 in 2007/08) and of the eight League matches at home so far. The League matches were attended by 338 304 fans, representing an increase of about 25 thousand fans in comparison to the previous record (313 504 in season 2005/06).
