Sérgio Conceição: “We are keeping our identity”

Dragons face Rio Ave at home for the late matchday one of Group D of the League Cup (Thursday, 21h15)

The competitions don’t stop and, this Thursday, at 21h15 (RTP 1 and Sport TV 1), FC Porto goes in to face Rio Ave, at Estádio do Dragão, in a match that had been postponed: matchday one of Group D of the League Cup. In the preview of the match, Sérgio Conceição stated the Dragons will face “a positive team” and acknowledged that the outcome will be important to define the future in the competition. Leixões is in the lead of Group D with four points in two matches, while FC Porto has one point, just like Rio Ave and Paços de Ferreira, with the latter also having played two matches.

Win, Win or Win
“It's a very important match, not just for us, but also for Rio Ave. We will face this match in the most serious way possible so that we can win it, knowing that it can determine our qualification to the semi-finals. If we win this match, and given the results Paços de Ferreira achieved, we will pretty much be fighting for the qualification against with Leixões.”

The usual Rio Ave?
“For all that Rio Ave has been doing and for what the message of their coach has been, I think they will not give up on their dynamics and style of play. We are prepared, but we think much more about what we can and should do. We are keeping an eye on them, on the weaknesses we can exploit and, of course, also on their strengths. One of those strengths is their ability to hold the ball and play on the entire pitch. They are a positive team that has been having a fantastic Championship.”

Identity will be the same
“We have to look at the moment of the team and at the players, because we can’t forget that we played on Monday. In that sense, the team I send in from the start will be the one I think is the strongest for this match, keeping in mind the management that needs to be done. As a whole, we are keeping our identity.”
