Felipe: “There is always a first time”

Central defender believes FC Porto may beat Liverpool if the defence remains solid and the attack efficient

FC Porto never won an official match in England, but Felipe reminded that “there is a first time for everything”, assuring that the goal is to beat Liverpool for the second leg of the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League. The central defender, who sat next to coach Sérgio Conceição for the preview of the match, believes the team, moralized by the victory over Sporting (2-1), last Friday, may get a good result this Tuesday, in Anfield Road, but, for that to happen, the Dragons will have to show defensive cohesion and attacking efficiency, just like the English team did in the first leg.

Cohesion and efficiency
“It’s a different match, we need to be cohesive in the back and efficient in the front, score first and then see what the match brings us. We need to give our best in every match, regardless of the competition we are playing for. It’s the best way we have to improve. We have the objective of winning in England. There is always a first time.”

The match for the first leg
“They had six opportunities and scored five goals. What’s hard for the defenders is when the opponent creates 20 opportunities; they were efficient, and that made the difference, as the number of chances created was the same.

At the start of the match, we were well, but then we conceded the first goal, and I believe the team felt the blow, we changed our style of play, and we ended up not being as aggressive as we should have.”

Defence with “new” fullbacks
“There isn’t much difference, as the work is the same, the mentality is the same; the features are different, but everyone knows what to do.”

The energy of the classic
“The classic gave us excellent energy. The fitness management is tricky, but that happens. The players are prepared and eager to give a great response.”

The Brazilian squad
“I want to work and the call-up is up for the national coach to decide. I will help FC Porto first and the rest will follow. The Champions League is a good stage to show myself to the national squad, but I have to think of FC Porto first.”
