Danilo: “The attitude has to be strong and competitive”

Blue and white midfielder talked of the match against Leipzig for matchday four of group G of the Champions League

Sitting next to Sérgio Conceição, at the press conference that previewed the home match against Leipzig, Danilo Pereira assured that “the group is feeling well and motivated” on the eve of matchday four of group G of the UEFA Champions League. When looking at Wednesday's match at Estádio do Dragão, the midfielder stated the importance of a strong and united start against the German vice-champions. Leipzig is second, with four points, and FC is Porto right behind, with three.

Errors that serve as a lesson
“The group is well and motivated, and has to stay like that, because this is a UEFA Champions League match. We are coming from a number of positive matches, but we can’t forget our performance in Germany. We have to correct the mistakes we made and make use of what we work on to win the match.”

United and compact
“The attitude has to be very strong and competitive. That’s the only way to match or surpass Leipzig in terms of ambition and motivation. We have to remain close and compact as a team, which I think didn’t happen in Germany. From there, we have to do what we know best and confident that the result will be positive.”

Shorten spaces
“Leipzig is a team that concentrates many players in the midfield. They have a lot of quality in that area, so we have to try to shorten the spaces and be strong on the pressure. If we keep that mentality, we can reduce their offensive potential.”

Capitalize on offensive production
“We are a team that produces a lot on the attack. If we play fast and remain intense and aggressive, I believe we can create difficulties for Leipzig. We have to score from the opportunities we create.”

Win at Estádio do Dragão
“We still haven’t won at home for the Champions League, and, in a way, we have to clear that image. We are at home, in front of our fans, and we have to lead by example, going in strong and united to win the match.”
