Heat and excitement were the specialty of the afternoon/evening this Saturday, with the Dragons, as usual, returning to Porto’s downtown for the presentation of the new kits of the New Balance collection for the 2016/17 season. Just like last year, Jardim do Passeio dos Clérigos was the stage chosen for the event Blue Summer – Constellation of the Dragon 2016/17, with a special highlight for the runway with some of the blue and white stars dressed to play, for the enjoyment of thousands of fans who joined the event throughout the day.
Together with Porto Lazer, Passeio dos Clérigos and Base Porto, acting as partners, the event, with free attendance, started at 16h00, and not even the heat stopped the most resilient from saving their seat in the front row to be close to the excitement. During the afternoon, the stage counted of the performances of Glockenwise, DJ Sininho, and Diana Martinez & The Crib, in front of several hundreds of blue and white fans, eager to watch the runway at 22h00.
And when that time came, it was the highlight of the evening. Portuguese DJ, producer and musician Moullinex prepared a performance specifically for the occasion, and the blue and white players joined some familiar faces from the world of fashion, such as Rúben Rua or Joana Freitas. From the main squad, Abouakar and Rúben Neves were the first on the catwalk, with the alternative kit, André Silva and Sérgio Oliveira wore the secondary, and the main kit were presented by André André and Felipe, with the goalkeeper equipment being worn by José Sá. Other Dragons joined the celebration, such as André Bessa, the captain of the basketball team, Hugo Laurentino, the goalkeeper of the handball team, or Jorge Silva, forward of the roller hockey team, who also showed skill as models.
As one of the new faces of the group, central defender Felipe revealed once again how honoured he is to wear the blue and white: “Like I’ve said before, I can’t wait to wear this jersey. It’s a great privilege to show this traditional kit and I know what it represents, as it’s paying homage to the victory in Vienna, which means it’s paying homage to the winning past of the club. The goal now is to add the symbol of champion to it”, the defender stated.
As for Rúben Neves and André André, both have been Dragons for quite some time. The two midfielders, wearing the third equipment and the main equipment, respectively, were unanimous in saying the new kits look “amazing”.
Angela Alvarez, representative of New Balance in the Iberian Peninsula, was also at the event and was pleased with how it went: “Each year, we try to do something better, more spectacular. And it was in fact spectacular. I feel this isn’t an event exclusive only to FC Porto; it belongs to the entire city, and, tonight, once again, we are going to have plenty of fun. We’ve joined FC Porto three years ago, and this is an exceptional club for our brand, as we share the same philosophy”, Angela assured.
