Commander, Golden Dragon and centenary

Danilo played his 100th match for the Dragons against Leipzig and even scored. Here are some of your best moments

There was no better way to celebrate his 100th match with the blue and white jersey than by scoring a decisive goal: Danilo did it on Wednesday against Leipzig (3-1), in matchday four of Group G of the UEFA Champions League. It was the 12th goal for the Dragons for the midfielder born on September 9, 1991, in Guinea-Bissau, but who came to Portugal when he six years old.

The debut for FC Porto came in August 15, 2015, in a FC Porto-Vitória de Guimarães (3-0), curiously the same match and result of his 50th match, on September 10, 2016. His first goal came on December 2, 2015, in a big win away (4-0), against União Madeira, still for the Portuguese League (you can see the goal here, in the video resume of the match). In 2016, he became European champion in national teams, earning the title of commander, and, in October, he received the Golden Dragon for Footballer of the Year.

Despite the significant number of goals for a player in his position, the image of Danilo will be his commitment, positional intelligence and the way he recovers, countless times, the ball for FC Porto – it’s not a coincidence that, in this profile, we call him the octopus of modern era. The number 22 has no problems in moving up with the ball on his feet, in assisting his teammates, and in shooting for goal. Going from one box to the other takes just a few seconds for Danilo.

In 2011, he was one of the figures of the national Under-20 team that was crowned vice-champion of the World in Colombia. He then played for Aris Thessaloniki, from Greece, on a loan from Parma, and only in 2013 did he arrive at Marítimo and started shining at club level. He arrived at Estádio do Dragão in the summer of 2015 and today the fans see him as one of those players who doesn’t know how to play badly.
