Like father, like son

Both FC Porto teams will spend Christmas and New Year in the lead of the two main Portuguese leagues

The victory of the B team in Famalicão (3-0) allowed the Dragons to imitate the main team in the leadership of the respective League. The blue and whites will thus spend Christmas and New Year in the lead of the First and the Second Leagues, which, in the case of team A, was secured by a 3-1 victory over Marítimo, on Monday.

The great result FC Porto B got at the home of a candidate to promotion (third place of the competition and could have taken the lead) is the reward for a path composed of 11 victories (best record in the competition), one tie and six defeats - 3-0 achieved on this matchday 18 was the third consecutive victory.

Both teams also share the coincidence of having the best attacks: the main team has 39 goals scored and six conceded (it is also the best defence) and the B team scored 30 and conceded 22. The A team record is higher in terms of results (12 victories and three ties in 15 matches), but the first place is guaranteed despite the tie in points with Sporting – as for the B team, the team will have at least one point of advantage over the second team, regardless of the results of the two matches of the Second League delayed, this Friday.

This situation had already happened at the end of 2015, with the B team becoming the 2015/16 national champion of the second league. The two leads are also the result of a great work of the respective coaches, Sérgio Conceição and António Folha, who have already stated several times that they stay in constant communication. In season 2017/18, Galeno, Jorge Fernandes, Luizão and André Pereira have already played for the main team.

The junior A and C teams are also in the lead of their series (North zone) of the national Championships, still in stages that geographically delimit the opponents. The Under-19 team have 41 points (12 more than Leixões, second) and the Under-15 have 12 points (four victories in four matchdays, and two points more than Sporting de Braga, second).
