The draw for the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League, held in Nyon, Switzerland, put Liverpool in the way of FC Porto, with the first leg scheduled for February 14 at Estádio do Dragão, and the second on March 6, in Anfield Road. In a reaction to the draw, Sérgio Conceição has no doubts that the round can go to either team and assured that FC Porto will be “a competitive team”, even though there is a “lot to play” before these matches.
There are no easy opponents in the Round of 16
“There is still a lot to play before these two matches against Liverpool and we will see how we feel when the time comes. There is one thing that is certain: we will continue to be a competitive team. We knew it was going to be difficult, regardless of what opponent we got in the draw.”
Respect and knowledge
“Liverpool is an attacking team, with very interesting players, and I believe they were the second team with the most goals scored in the group stage. I think Liverpool also has their weaknesses. Because I know and because I am passionate about football, I'm following what Liverpool has been doing in the English League. We also know this is a historic club that has won five Champions League titles, but those numbers don’t mean anything to me. When the time comes, we will prepare the matches in the best possible way so that we can continue to be a team according to what is the image of FC Porto.”
A matter of balance
“Honestly, contrary to what people are saying, I think this round is perhaps one of the most balanced of the Round of 16 of the Champions League.”
