Organization that rules over world football officially recognised the two intercontinental trophies won by FC Porto


After the consideration by the Council of FIFA, which was held in Calcutta, India, this Friday, FC Porto is now given credit for the two titles of World Champion, won in 1987 and 2004. Starting this Friday, the organization that rules football in the world admits that all European and South-American team that won the Intercontinental Cup between 1960 and 2004 are to be considered World Champions.

FC Porto won the Intercontinental Cup twice, thanks to the victories over Peñarol, from Uruguay, in 1987 (2-1, after extra time), and over Once Caldas, from Colombia, (8-7 in penalty shootout) for the 2004 edition of the competition, which started being played under a different format after that year, under the designation of Club World Cup.

As FC Porto was the last club to win the competition, the original trophy of the Intercontinental Cup is on display at the Museum.
