Danilo Pereira

In 2011, Danilo Pereira was one of the key players of the Under-20 national team, vice-champion of the World in Colombia, but few knew him. He played in Aris Salonica, from Greece, on a loan from Parma, where he was never given an opportunity to shine. That’s when Marítimo came in. In Madeira, the midfielder was able to prove his qualities, which allowed him to reach the top of Portuguese football, signing for FC Porto. Born in 1991, in Guinea-Bissau, with Portuguese nationality, Danilo started playing football at Arsenal 72, then in Estoril and finally in Benfica, from where he ended up being dismissed. He then tried, and failed, his luck in Italian football, after that the Greek and then the Dutch, before settling in, for the first time, in the Portuguese League, where he became one of the revelations of season 2014/15. Danilo Pereira is a typical 6, who can also play as an 8, using his physical prowess to establish his dominance, either in the midfield or moving up on the pitch. His positioning and ball recovery capacity set him apart, as they offer balance to the team, always in high intensity, revealing an innate capacity to fall back to the defence when needed, a sector he knows well. Strong in breaking the opposing play, he is also able to create game for his own team, resorting to considerable calm and tranquillity during the first attacking movements. Considered a modern day box-to-box, Danilo blends into plays well, helping to create danger situations. Danilo also has an appetite for goals, either through mid-range shots – he already scored some beautiful goals – either from set pieces, where he is just as strong. He took his place at Estádio do Dragão quickly, after his arrival in the summer of 2015, and has been one of the secrets to the stability of the team for blue and white coaches, becoming one of those players that don’t seem to know how to make mistakes.
