Hotel is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2020

Futebol Clube do Porto, owner, and Lucios Engenharia e Construção, promoter and responsible for the rehabilitation project, will create a new hotel in the city of Porto. The unit will be located in the old headquarters of the club, in the heart of Avenida dos Aliados, one of the noblest areas of the city, and this Monday signals the launch of the rehabilitation works, with the presence of the FC Porto chairman, Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, the mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, the CEO of Lucios, Filipe Azevedo, and the CEO of ECS Capital, Fernando Esmeraldo.

The requalification and renovation of the building represents an investment of 2.8 million euros by Lucios - one of the largest companies in the construction sector in Portugal, with over seven decades of history -, which was chosen following the public tender launched by the club. Lucios will entrust ECS Capital with the hotel operation. ECS Capital has vast experience in the hotel sector, with around 3,000 accommodation units spread all over the country.

The hotel is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2020 and will be under concession for a period of 20 years. After that, the building will remain in the possession of FC Porto.

The rehabilitation project of the former headquarters of Futebol Clube do Porto foresees the creation of a hotel with 54 rooms, a restaurant and bar, seeking to distinguish itself, not only for its privileged location and obvious architectural value, but especially for its strong connection to the city and to one of its main international symbols, FC Porto.

To keep with the history of the building and its location, the unit will adopt a concept of elegancy, warmth and intimacy, recreating literary, sports, cultural or simply leisure associations of the beginning of the 20th century.

The outer façade, built in the 1930s, will be fully preserved, along with the original wooden frames of the main elevation and the central staircase and slabs of the various floors, given the excellent conditions they still present.

As nowadays’ tourists increasingly demand for authenticity and “tourism experiences”, the main objective of the partners is, without a doubt, to capitalise on this amazing historical and cultural patrimony, and combine it with a service of excellence and quality.
