Sporting was the first to score at Estádio do Dragão, but Danilo and Herrera, with a great goal, gave the victory to FC Porto in the classic (2-1)

This Saturday, FC Porto beat Sporting (2-1), at Estádio do Dragão, for matchday 34, the last in this edition of Liga NOS. The Lions were the first to score, with a goal by Luiz Phellype (61m), but Danilo (78m) and Herrera (87m) gave the victory to the blue and whites. FC Porto ends the championship in the second place, with 85 points, two points behind Benfica.

As needed, FC Porto took control of the classic right from the start and Soares with a shot from outside the area that was deflected to a corner-kick (6m). In a quick counter-attack, Corona was faster than Borja, but ended up being grabbed by the left fullback when he was about to go for goal. Fábio Veríssimo first showed the yellow card, but, after the VAR rightfully warned him, Borja did see the red card (17m).

The blue and white pressure increased as the Lions were outnumbered and the siege to their goal was getting bigger as the clock moved on. Marega, playing his 100th match as a Dragon, scored, but the Malian forward was off-side when Danilo made the pass (35m). Before that, Soares almost scored from a cross, but Renan put it out into a corner (26m). Despite the blue and white dominance, the break came without goals.

Sérgio Conceição sent in Manafá and Brahimi for the second-half, aiming at pushing the blue and white attack forward, but Sporting was the one scoring, by Luiz Phellype. In a quick counter-attack, Acuña passed to the Brazilian forward, who didn’t miss in front of Vaná (61m). Without doing anything to earn it, Sporting moved ahead of the scoreboard at Estádio do Dragão, forcing FC Porto to recover. After several attempts, the Dragons finally reached the tie.

In a corner-kick taken by Corona, Soares won the ball and passed to Danilo, for the 1-1 (78m). The blue and white pressure was intense in the final minutes and Sporting finally broke: another corner taken by Corona, Felipe headed it, and Herrera, in a great shot, made it 2-1 (87m). The movement of the captain brought justice to the scoreboard and rewarded the team that worked harder for the victory. Estádio do Dragão deserved this victory in the farewell to season 2018/19.
