Great goal from the Spanish defender decided the match against Desportivo das Aves (1-0) for matchday 10 of the League

This Sunday, FC Porto beat Desportivo das Aves at home (1-0), for matchday 10 of Liga NOS. Marcano (13m) scored the goal for the blue and whites, who are second in the table, with 25 points, two behind Benfica.

It only took 53 seconds for the Dragons to aim for goal: Otávio crossed to the area and found Mbemba, but the header was weak and over the top. After a tremendous ovation for “Two-shoes” Fernando Gomes, on minute nine, Marcano switched roles and scored as if he were a striker: cross from Otávio and a volley from the central defender, scoring after the ball hit the post and went in (13m).

24 minutes in, Hélder Malheiro signalled a penalty on Bruno Costa, but the VAR reversed the decision. Curiously enough, the VAR was unable to see a hand on the ball from Mehremic in the area, which would have meant a penalty (40m). Before that, Luis Díaz put Aflalo to the test, with a strong shot from outside the area, but the goalkeeper saved it in style (32m). Despite the early goal, FC Porto failed to score again before the break.

The second-half was far from a great show of football, and the dangerous plays were scare, but belonged to FC Porto entirely. 65 minutes in, after a corner-kick taken by Alex Telles, Pepe forced the opposing goalkeeper to a great save, and then Soares headed just over the top bar (71m). The blue and white performance wasn’t brilliant and it was difficult to counter the defensive organization of Desportivo das Aves, but what matters the most was achieved: the three points.
