FC Porto lost in Famalicão, 2-1, for matchday 25 of the championship

This Wednesday, FC Porto tied lost to Famalicão (2-1), at Estádio Municipal de Famalicão, for matchday 25 of Liga NOS. The Dragons are in the lead of the championship, with 60 points, one more than Benfica, who has yet to play this matchday.

Those watching the match, surely didn’t remember that the team led by Sérgio Conceição hadn’t played for 88 days. Authoritarian and pressing, the Dragons showed great level in the first 30 minutes, and only the lack of efficiency stopped them from opening the scoreboard. Marega, receiving a great pass from Tecatito Corona, wasted the first great opportunity in front of Defendi (11m). The home goalkeeper was the man of the match in the first-half, but also counted on Racic to clear a sure goal from Luis Díaz (22m). On the next play, Diogo Gonçalves shot outside the post, following a quick counter-attack from Famalicão (21m).

That was the only noteworthy attack from the home team, always closer to conceding than to scoring. Danilo headed over the bar in a free-kick taken by Sérgio Oliveira (25m) and Soares came close to scoring after a great play by Otávio, but Defendi did another great save (35m). And so the break came without goals. Shortly after the resume of the match, and without doing anything to earn it, Famalicão gain the lead with a goal out of nowhere. A bad pass from Marchesín left Fábio Martins in great position and the striker took the chance to score (48m).

Forced to run after the result, FC Porto tried to react on the following play, but Danilo, in good position, headed straight at Defendi (51m). In the last 20 minutes, Luis Díaz dribbled four opponents and shot with his left foot, but Mbemba missed the goal by centimetres (72m). Corona, however, didn’t miss it. The Mexican international star got to a great pass from Sérgio Oliveira and shot for the tie (74m), which didn’t last long. Pedro Gonçalves, in an individual play, shot just outside the area, not giving any chances to Marchesín, and set the final score, 2-1, (78m). Still, during stoppage time, it appears that a hand on the ball inside Famalicão’s area went unnoticed, in a play with Aboubakar in the area.
