Classic between Sporting and FC Porto, for matchday five of the Portugal Bwin League, ended in a tie (1-1)

This Saturday, FC Porto tied against Sporting (1-1) at the Estádio de Alvalade for matchday five of the championship. Luis Díaz was the scorer for the Dragons, who now have 11 points, four behind Benfica, first.

With Tecatito as the only new face in the FC Porto’s team, the classic started with many fouls and Nuno Almeida didn’t spare on the yellow cards, showing seven in the first-half. After a troubled start and on the first dangerous move in either goal, Sporting moved up on the scoreboard through Nuno Santos, who responded with a slight touch to a cross from Pedro Porro, beating Diogo Costa (16m). In response, Otávio recovered the ball close to the opposing area and found Tecatito Corona in good position in the area, but the Mexican international’s header went wide (18m).

After João Palhinha headed over the top bar in a corner (26m), Nuno Santos had two more opportunities to beat Diogo Costa, but the FC Porto goalkeeper replied with two great saves and prevented another celebration (31m and 36m). And so the 1-0 score remained until halftime. The second-half started with referee Nuno Almeida not showing Pedro Porro his second yellow and a red card, as he grabbed Otávio ostentatiously when the latter was preparing to start a counterattack (49m). Even without great opportunities worth mentioning in either goal, the Dragons reached the tie in all fairness and materialized the superiority shown in the second-half: Luis Díaz received a great pass from Tecatito Corona and dribbled the opposing defence before beating Adán with a great shot already inside the area (71m).

The Colombian international’s goal boosted the blue and white momentum, but the scoreboard would remain unchanged. Before referee Nuno Almeida signalled the end, Toni Martínez was shown two yellow cards in two minutes and left FC Porto outnumbered (87m). Unlike what happened with Pedro Porro, the referee sent off Toni Martínez.
