Marko Grujic, Mehdi Taremi and João Mário talked on behalf of the team after the 5-1 victory over Marítimo

The National Champions made it clear what they want. Returning to Estádio do Dragão with one more Supercup in their history, FC Porto started the League with the right foot, at full throttle. Facing Marítimo, at home, the blue and whites were the undisputed winners (at least in terms of result) by 5-1, keeping the tone of the previous season and making clear what are their expectations in the competition, the number one goal. After the match, Mehdi Taremi stated he was “happy to help” and promised to continue giving “always the best” for the team, while Marko Grujic talked about a display of form and João Mário about the “best way to start”.

Marko Grujic
“It was a very important match as it was the first one. 5-1 is a great result, to have 46 thousand people in the stands is amazing and we will keep fighting for them, as they are tremendous. Matheus (Uribe) is a great player, we showed we can play together and the important thing is that we won. We scored five goals and we are on the right track. The coach says it’s very difficult to win a championship and two in a row even more so. That is our goal, we will work even harder than last year. The rivals are strong, but we showed today that we are too.”

Mehdi Taremi
“It’s good for me and so I’m very happy. I do everything for the team and when I score I’m happy to help. When we play close to our fans, we feel great enthusiasm because they help us a lot, they are spectacular and we want to keep winning with them in the League. Here, it doesn’t matter who plays or who doesn’t, we have many good players on and off the pitch and we are a complete team. My job is to score and assist, I always give my best and I will continue to do so.”

João Mário
“We went in very well, this is how we wanted to start the championship. A great victory, in front of our fans... it couldn’t have been in a better way. We work every day to help the team as much as we can, that’s what I try to do, today it went well and now we have to continue, to keep on winning. It’s very important that we impose what we want to do, which is to win the championship. For that, we have to win matches, this club feeds on victories and that’s why we keep fighting and working every day to improve as a team and get good results.”
