Under-19: João Brandão wants to add a victory to an “intense, quality match”

The Dragons, leaders of Group G of the UEFA Youth League, face Monaco at home, for matchday six, the last one

The Under-19 team of FC Porto is leader in Group G of the UEFA Youth League, and will be facing Monaco at home, for matchday six, with two points more than the French team, second. The tie is enough for the Dragons to qualify directly to the Round of 16, but coach João Brandão assured the objective is to win, especially considering “playing for a tie is against the principles and values of FC Porto”. The match is played this Wednesday, at 14h00 (SportTV), in Olival.

Thinking of victory
“Playing for the tie would go against the principles and values of FC Porto. The objective is to win, playing an intense, quality match. We want the three points to assure the lead, which was one of our goals for this stage in the competition. I’m expecting a competent performance, with a strong and aggressive defensive transition. With the possession of the ball, I believe we can disrupt Monaco’s defensive strategy.”

Opponent demands respect
“Every match is a challenge and this will be one as well, especially because we weren’t able to beat them there. We will be facing a powerful team, with tremendous physical capacity. We know physique will be their focus, with our capacity to close the wings under the spotlight. The moment of defensive transition will be instrumental, from my point of view, so we can control the match.”
