Estádio do Dragão will be the stage of the match for the Round of last 16

Vitória de Guimarães is the opponent FC Porto will face for the Round of 16 of the Portuguese Cup, according to the draw held this Wednesday afternoon, at the Cidade do Futebol, in Oeiras. The match will be played at Estádio do Dragão, and the round is scheduled for December 12, 13 and 14. Fernando Gomes, representative of the Dragons in the draw, admitted that the Portuguese Cup, right behind the championship, is the great goal of the season, and spoke with “respect” for the opponent: “Vitória is one of the best Portuguese teams, history tells us that much. We respect Vitória, for all its greatness. But, as we want to win, we have to approach all matches with full responsibility and competence. What matters in these cases is how we approach the challenges. We have been great in that regard and I am confident that we will continue to be.” The two teams have already met 12 times in the competition, with the Dragons eliminating Guimarães in ten of them - the only exceptions go back to seasons 1975/76 and 2004/05, when the team from Minho, playing at home, won 2-1. Overall, history shows 15 matches between FC Porto and Vitória de Guimarães in the Portuguese Cup, as, in some editions, the rounds were played in two legs. The blue and whites are at 11 wins - one of which meant winning the competition in 2010/11 - a tie and three defeats, scoring 48 goals and conceding 20. FC Porto reaches the fifth round after eliminating Lusitano de Évora (6-0) and Portimonense (3-2), while Guimarães eliminated Feirense (2-1) and Vasco da Gama (6-1). This will be the first time that the two emblems face each other officially this season, given that, for the League, they will only meet in January, for matchday 17, the last of the first turn.
