The home of the Dragons was chosen out of nine candidates. Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa talked of “being proud”
Estádio do Dragão will be the stage for the 2020 edition of the European Supercup, a match that brings together the winning teams of UEFA Champions League and Europa League. The blue and white application beat the other eight to host one of the most anticipated matches of the football season: Tirana Arena (Albania), Dynamo Stadium (Belarus), Helsinki Olympic (Finland), Nice Stadium (France), Sami Ofer Stadium (Israel), Almaty Stadium (Kazakhstan), Zimbru Stadium (Moldova), and Windsor Park (Northern Ireland).
In a reaction to UEFA's choice, FC Porto’s chairman Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa talked of how “proud” he is for receiving such an important match at Estádio do Dragão, something that was only possible thanks to the international prestige that currently has the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, Fernando Gomes.
“It is a great pride for FC Porto to host the final of the European Supercup. It is an opportunity for everyone to appreciate the greatness of our stadium. This wouldn’t have been possible without the great international prestige of the President of the Portuguese Football Federation, Fernando Gomes. We are going to provide a great show for everyone, which will honour FC Porto and Portuguese football”, the chairman stated.
