FC Porto Fidelidade beat Benfica, 9-2, in the second leg of the quarter-finals of the competition

FC Porto Fidelidade is in the Final Four of the EuroLeague in roller-hockey, after beating Benfica (9-2) at Dragão Caixa, in the second leg of the quarter-finals. In the first leg, in Lisbon, Benfica won 3-2, but the national champions turned the round and move on in the competition.

The word slaughter isn’t pretty to use, but that’s what felt like when watching the first-half of the match opposing FC Porto and Benfica. The Dragons were far superior and that was clear from the start, as, nine minutes in, there were already five goals separating the two teams. Gonçalo Alves (3) and Reinaldo García (2), always supported, spread horror among the red defence and became the biggest names in dream first-half.

The national champions were truly fantastic throughout the first 25 minutes, and captain Hélder Nunes scored the sixth before Carlos Nicolía reduced to 6-1, just before the break. The excellence of the blue and white performance continued in the second-half, when the team led by Guillem Cabestany reached the final score of a great victory over Benfica: 9-2. FC Porto put on a great performance to reach the Final Four of the EuroLeague.

“Today, the usual balance between these two teams, didn’t occur. Our performance was enarly perfect, and we scored from many of the opportunities we had, especially in the first-half. The players made use of the work done and were great. When the teram plays like this, it’s hard to stop us. We want to win the EuroLeague and we will fight for it until the end”, coach Guillem Cabestany stated, at the end of the match, talking to Porto Canal.
