Sérgio Conceição was pleased with the response his players gave in Vila Real

Sérgio Conceição praised the respect his team had for Vila Real and commended the performance of the players in the third round of the Portuguese Cup The Dragons won 6-0 at the Complexo Desportivo Monte da Forca and move on in the competition.

Respect for the fans, the match and the Cup
“In football and in life, there are two key words: humbleness and respect. We were humble and showed respect for the people that watched the match, for the match itself, and for the competition. I am happy for that, regardless of the goals, which weren’t important. What was important was the performance of the players, some that haven’t been called as often, showing that we can count on them.”

Using the players that stayed in Olival
“I had to use a team I had worked with. Those who played spent the last two weeks with me, with the exception of Éder Militão. I had players that came right as the training was starting, so it was impossible for me to use them today. But I prepared the team with that notion of respect, as in football today everyone works well, the coaches are getting more and more competent, things evolve and I’m glad that happens.”

On the four goals scored by Adrián López
“It’s not the match that determines more opportunities for the players. It’s the trainings. What Adrián did today is what he usually does in training. For example, I determined that the first free-kick at the edge of the area would be taken by him, as I know he does it in training.”

Similar feeling in Vila Real or in Moscow
“This setting is fantastic. I can admit I watch more matches from the Campeonato de Portugal in person that from the League. I like to go to those matches, you learn a lot. The feeling has to be the same, whether you play here or in Russia, for the Champions League, on Wednesday, as that’s the only way to reach a high standard and stay in that standard.”
