FC Porto B lost to Dynamo Zagreb II on matchday 3 of Group A

This Saturday, FC Porto B bid farewell to the Premier League International Cup, the competition the Dragons won in 2016/17 and 2017/18. The blue and whites lost to Dynamo Zagreb II (4-1) on matchday 3 of Group A, held in Dagenham, England.

The team led by Rui Barros will end Group A in the fourth position, with one point, whereas Dynamo Zagreb II, leader on condition, has six. The other teams in the group, Southampton (four points) and West Ham (three), will play for the last matchday on December 11.

In need of a victory to keep fighting for the quarter-finals (the first of the group qualify directly, and the best two second places join them), FC Porto B endured the good start of the Croatian team, and moved ahead of the match on minute 16.

Gleison took a corner-kick on the right and Romário Baró headed the ball in. The Dragons gained momentum after that and aimed for the second goal, but the opponent’s response came 30 minutes in.

Sipos tied the match, and, three minutes later, Menalo turned the scoreboard around, with a shot on the left. Extremely efficient, the opponent increased the advantage before the break, with Knezevic shooting from outside the area.

Rui Barros tried to change the match, aiming for the speed and skill of Musa Yahaya and Madi Queta for the second-half. FC Porto B did seem to react, Inácio forced the opposing goalkeeper to a tight save (59m), but Dynamo Zagreb II took advantage of the blue and white anxiety and set the final score 71 minutes in, with Melano scoring his second goal in the match.

FC Porto B started with the following players: Ricardo Silva; Fernando Fonseca (Musa Yahaya, 46m), Pedro Justiniano, Diego Landis, Inácio, Rui Pires, Romário Baró, Moreto Cassamá (Luizão, 80m), Gleison (Madi Queta, 61m), Rúben Macedo and Rui Costa.
