🤾FC Porto 27-28 Sporting CP (Handball)

Team led by Mário Silva reached the semi-finals of the competition for the second year in a row after beating Midtjylland at home, 3-0

This afternoon, FC Porto reached the Final Four of the Youth League for the second season in a row, after beating Midtjylland in Olival, by 3-0, thanks to the goals scored by Mor Ndiaye, Afonso Sousa and Gonçalo Borges. On April 26, at the Colovray Stadium, in Nyon, Switzerland, the team led by Mário Silva will play the semi-finals against the winner of the match opposing Hoffenheim and Real Madrid, scheduled fir tomorrow.

The blue and white dominance in the match started early and, 15 minutes in, after an individual play from João Mário on the left, allowed Mor Ndiaye to head the ball in. The tendency in the first-half wouldn’t change and the Dragons were the ones coming closer to the 2-0, with more corner-kicks and shots, against an opponent that was never able to aim for goal.

The Danish reaction came at the start of the second-half, by Tengstedt: the number 10 headed at the far post, forcing Diogo Costa to a tight save, on the day the goalkeeper played his 26th match in the youth Champions League, making him the player with the most participations in the competition. But FC Porto didn’t take long to resume the dominance. Romário Baró (54m) and Fábio Vieira (73m) had dangerous shots, before Afonso Sousa and Gonçalo Borges, both sent in the second-half, set the final 3-0.

The Under19 will play again on Saturday, against Tondela, again in Olival. Matchday 6 of the final stage of the championship is scheduled for 16h and will be broadcasted live and exclusively in Porto Canal.
