Liverpool ended the great campaign FC Porto had in the Champions League

This Wednesday signalled the end of another great campaign in the Champions League, which justifies the applauses of the blue and white fans at the end of an unfortunate night at Estádio do Dragão. With tremendous efficiency, Liverpool assured another victory (1-4) and moves on to the semi-finals of the competition.

In the first-half, the English team showed great respect for FC Porto, playing from the back and using uncommon strategies for the Reds, with goalkeeper Alisson constantly wasting time, right from the start.

Liverpool tried to stop the blue and white momentum, as the Dragons went in strong and scared the opponent, while also exciting the fans at the sold-out stadium. Taking the initiative of the match and applying high pressure, the national champions forced a number of mistakes and tried to get to goal often.

In the first 25 minutes, FC Porto grew and deserved to score in one of the 13 shots they did. But luck doesn’t always go to the daring, and the team led by Jurgen Klopp ended up scoring on the first time they reached the blue and white area. Salah’s shot found its way to Sadio Mané and the Senegalese made it count. The play was initially disallowed for off-side, but, after checking the VAR, the goal was flagged.

The national champions didn’t give up and continued to at a different result. Just before the break, Marega shot in the area, the ball deflected on Andy Robertson’s arm, but the penalty wasn’t given.

Sérgio Conceição sent in Soares for the second-half (replacing Otávio) and the Brazilian headed outside the post (56m). However, Liverpool would score again in a counter-attack finished by Mohamed Salah.

The thrilling response from the blue and white fans, perfectly connected to the team, had an immediate consequence. Éder Militão, one of the best on the pitch, headed the ball in after the corner-kick taken by Alex Telles, making it 1-2 (69m). Showing mental and physical fatigue, facing an opponent that was clearly fresher by the end of the match, the Dragons conceded two more goals that ended up being too heavy for FC Porto. Roberto Firmino (77m) and Virgil van Djik (84m) closed the match and the round.
