Sérgio Conceição wants the team focused on the final of the Portuguese Cup

FC Porto beat Sporting (2-1) for matchday 34 of the 2018/19 League. At the end of the match, Sérgio Conceição admitted it wasn’t easy for the team to deal with the last matchday, but he was pleased with the victory in the farewell to Estádio do Dragão in the current season.

A difficult context for the match
“We knew that, for all that happened in the last weeks, it would be difficult to win the championship. We had to do our job, but we didn’t go in with the determination I wanted. This was a match in a difficult context. We were in the lead for most of the championship, we got 88 and 85 points in the last two seasons, over 170 points, and that should be praised, but, this time, it wasn’t enough to become the champions. We have a title to win in the next weekend and we have to do our best to win it. In the second-half, we were closer to what we wanted and tried to win the match. Regardless of what happened in the other stadium, we had to win here and get the three points. We reached a fair victory.”

Jesús Corona sent-off
“That ending is a shame. I didn’t see Corona assaulting anyone and we lost an important player for the final. I have a heartbroken player in the squad, for a situation where he did nothing. There were many players in the situation, but only Corona was sent-off.”

Comments promised for next week
“After Saturday, I will talk of many things, but, right now, I want to focus on work and on the fight for the title ahead.”

Thank you to the fans
“For all that happened in the season, for the passion for the club, for everything that is the relation between the team and the fans. It’s been two wonderful years, but, unfortunately, you can’t win every title. We have a title next week to offer them, because they deserve, both the club and the fans.”
