End of the Match: FC Porto 2-1 FC Twente

Left fullback is preparing for his fourth season at FC Porto

The consistency shown by Alex Telles since he signed for FC Porto, in the summer of 2016, is impressive, and can be seen in numbers: 45 matches (1 goal) in 2016/17, 45 matches (4 goals) in 2017/18 and 53 matches (6 goals) in 2018/19. The international Brazilian left fullback is preparing for his fourth season in blue and white, and is one of the most notorious names in the squad, which makes him feel even more responsibility, despite thinking that everyone is important when the team behaves like a family.

Another intense pre-season
“Every pre-season starts with intensity and you have to readjust to the workload in the first days. It’s natural to feel pain at this time. After a week, you manage to find your pace, as we know that we have important competitions to fight for in August.”

Individual and team responsibility
“The kids that were promoted from the youth squads show a lot of quality and the coach trusts the work they develop. I feel a certain responsibility and I hope to help integrate the new players, be it newcomers or youngsters. I want to help them feel the spirit of playing at FC Porto, of the soul you have to show during training, during matches. I feel great responsibility, but everyone has their own responsibility, and that will help us grow together as a team.”

Clear objectives
“What we built last season was something very positive, but it would have only been perfect with the title, something that we have to get this season. We start with a lot of ambition from day one and we, the players, follow the ideas of our coach and coaching staff, as always. We will work hard and come together even more as a family. We want to take back what is ours.”

Championship and Champions League in August
“It’s normal to have those matches at the start of the season. For a team like FC Porto, a world class giant, you have to be prepared for those matches. No matter who the opponent may be, we are focused and will give 110% as always. We will be prepared.”

Improve individual records
“I always try to take another step every season and always aim at improving. I am pleased that I improve every year here at FC Porto, be it with goals or assistances. I want to give my best, increase my numbers, and, most of all, bring joy to the fans, as they deserve it.”
