Zé Luís and Marega scored in the fantastic performance FC Porto put on against Benfica (2-0), at Estádio da Luz
This Saturday, FC Porto beat Benfica (2-0), at Estádio da Luz, for matchday three of Liga NOS. Zé Luís (22 m) and Marega (86 m) were the scorers for the Dragons, who gave no chances to the opponent. With this victory, the blue and whites now have six points and are close to the top of the table.
FC Porto started the classic well, taking control of the match right from the start, taking only seven minutes to reach the opposing goal with danger: in frontal position, Romário Baró shot straight at Vlachodimos. The Dragons never lost their composure during the first-half and were always more dangerous than the home team, powerless to stop the blue and white dominance. In a quick transition, Marega found Zé Luís, but the Cape Verdean couldn’t beat Vlachodimos (21 m).
It was sort of a warning for what was to come: from a corner-kick taken by Alex Telles, a deflection had the ball landing right next to Zé Luís, who scored his fifth goal in five matches this season (22m). A fair advantage for FC Porto, who could have even scored more in the first 45 minutes. The second-half started like the first ended, with FC Porto taking the opposing midfield and creating danger: Vlachodimos was the only one preventing Luis Díaz from making it 2-0 (48 m).
Benfica tried everything to stop the blue and white dominance, but was never able to disturb the team led by Sérgio Conceição. The space being opened in the red defence seemed to point at the 2-0, but Marega would still waste an opportunity (78 m). But the second attempt was successful: Otávio passed it forward, the Malian ran for the second of the evening and his first in 2019/20 (86 m).
A fantastic performance for FC Porto, with an undisputed victory, as the Dragons were largely better than Benfica the entire match.
