Seventh consecutive victory for FC Porto, against Santa Clara again (1-0) and the lead of Group D of the League Cup

FC Porto started the League Cup with the right foot, beating Santa Clara 1-0, in the second match in one week against the team from Azores at Estádio do Dragão. Diogo Leite scored the single goal of the match, allowing the blue and whites to take the lead of Group D, which is completed by Desportivo de Chaves and Casa Pia.

Sérgio Conceição sent in a team with nine changes, given the intense cycle of matches, offering a spot in the starting team to four players that won the last edition of the UEFA Youth League: Diogo Costa, Diogo Leite, Romário Baró and Fábio Silva.

Diogo Costa debuted in the main squad and Fábio Silva played his first match in the starting team, aged 17 years, two months and six days. Diogo Leite, who had only played two matches for the second team in season 2019/20, was in the centre of the defence and scored the only goal of the match, just before the break.

Nakajima, another new face in the line-up, was the first to aim for goal. Two minutes in, the midfielder forced André Ferreira to a close save, with a shot from outside the area, and, shortly after, shot at the side net. After this, there was a less interesting period in the match, until Soares came close to the goal, in a mid-distance shot with his left foot, but the opposing goalkeeper saved it into a corner-kick.

Diogo Leite missed the target 41 minutes in, after a corner-kick taken by Alex Telles, but then did the best out of a cross from Nakajima, who did a great job to dribble Alfredo Stephens.

Santa Clara, using excessive aggressiveness throughout the match - as was clear in the vicious tackle from Fábio Cardoso on Romário Baró, injuring the midfielder - tried to react in the second-half, but the control of the match remained with FC Porto, who could have scored another goal by Soares (74m) and Pepe (86m). But the seventh consecutive victory was reached.
